Our story

For as long as I can remember, I have loved flowers. One of my first childhood memories is chasing my brother through a field of Daffodils (Daffodil Hill in the Sierra Nevada Mountains). Flowers have always brought me so much joy and added such beauty to my life. They can turn a “blue day into a new day” with one glance or just one smell. I think that most people have at least one flower that makes them feel very nostalgic.
Covid and turning 50 have reminded me that we only have a short time here and that we should spend as much of our time as we can doing something that we love. So i’ve finally taken the leap and have decided to turn a hobby into something bigger. I began the Floret Flowers online workshop in January of 2023 and have learned so much. I still have a ton to learn but with the support of my family and friends have begun growing cut flowers on a smaller scale, but a large enough scale to sell and donate to our local community and businesses.
Mostly I hope to bring a little extra happy to as many people in our community as I can and to try and help our local wildlife thrive. I continue to work full time for the City of Morgan Hill as the Housing Program Coordinator, and I love my job. This position has afforded me the opportunity to interact with and learn from many of our most vulnerable members of our community. Their hardships and perseverance inspire me to continue to do whatever I can to make our community a safe haven for them. I want them to feel welcome, valued, and special. I have seen many wonderful local organizations make a difference in these peoples lives and have been inspired. Because of that inspiration, many of our blooms will be donated to our unhoused residents, gender based violence survivors, and to many without families in our residential care facilities. “Blooms by Joella” (named after our children, Jo and Ella) hopes to bring a little extra happy to our community…one “bloom” at a time.
